An African Philosophical Approach To Teaching

Philosophy of educationAccording to Aristotle, ‘education is the process of creating sound mind in the sound body’. Description: Journal of General Education: A Curricular Commons of the Humanities and Sciences is devoted to the ideas and ideals of scholarship that enlighten the understanding of curriculum that reaches beyond disciplinary and professional concentrations to provide an undergraduate educational commons.

Revalidation assesses the quality and standards of the programme to ensure it continues to provide a distinct, high quality academic experience for students, enabling them to acquire the necessary academic knowledge, understanding, general and subject-specific skills required to pursue a graduate level career.

Having spent a hugely enjoyable 2017-18 doing an MSc in the Philosophy of Education at Edinburgh reading and hearing from the likes of David Hansen, Jan Derry, Joseph Dunne and many more of the keynote speakers and delegates at the 2019 PESGB annual conference, the prospect of my own attendance at the gathering filled me with feelings of excitement and trepidation… My master’s had helped me reflect on and get a better understanding of my fifteen years of practice teaching Philosophy and Religious Education in English and Scottish schools.

Chapters consider how this decline has impacted teacher education and practice, offering new directions for the reintegration of philosophical thinking in teacher preparation and development. The liberal philosophy aims at developing intellectual powers, while the behavioral ideologies focus on the survival skills of a human being and the role of education in teaching them.

Because we see knowledge as something that teachers have and students have to get, we view it as being possessed by individuals. 4. Students need timely feedback to improve. A teacher should be able to organize a standards-based lesson sequence, successfully implement the plan, and then evaluate student learning.Philosophy of education
