I believe it is the responsibility of every school board in America to promote multiculturalism in its schools. Provide continuing education and professional development opportunities to all school staff: Ongoing high-quality professional development opportunities for teachers, administrators, and education support professionals produce better outcomes for students.
Though the teacher workforce is getting more diverse, it is not keeping pace with changes in student demographics: educators of color comprise only 20{37cb68deedc28952cf539b2883fab1aeebe007ed2a99fb6afad134f549a43498} of the teaching workforce, while students of color now represent more than half of public school students.
In particular, many state universities are regarded as among the best institutions of higher education in the US but usually are surpassed in ranking by certain private universities and colleges, such as those of the Ivy League , which are often very expensive and extremely selective in the students they accept.
Special education school expenses are much, much higher for the schools than those for traditional students and, though there are state and federal programs to defray the costs, some schools are hard pressed to provide help needed even when spelled out in an IEP.
Educators, particularly women , across the country have carried the #RedforEd movement from the streets to state capitol buildings , striking not just to get the compensation they deserve, but to condemn the diversion of funding from public schools to private ones, to increase funding to reduce class sizes and improve their schools , and to expand services that will make their students’ lives safer and more stable.
